People are being invited to pile on the pounds for a good cause at Peak Village this New Year as Rowsley’s outlet Shopping Centre launches ‘The Old Station Building Knitathon’, where each purl stitched in time will help to raise vital funds for national charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

A ‘Knitting Chair’ will be placed in the Old Station Building at Peak Village and for a £1 donation for adults (just 50p for children) would-be knitters are being invited to knit a length of scarf. The aim over the next few months is to ultimately attach the pieces to stretch the scarf from the Old Station Building, around the shopping centre and back again!

The wool has been kindly donated by Karen Bond of Elizabeth’s in Clay Cross and each length of wool has been given a number. At the end of the Knitathon, a number will be drawn at random and the winner will receive a £20 gift voucher for The Old Station Fudge Shop, together with a £50 shopping voucher to spend in any Peak Village store, so whatever your ability, purls means pounds for you and charity too.

If knitting is not your thing, there is also a competition to guess which shop the scarf will reach once it is completed and the winner will receive a £20 voucher for Peak Barn and a £50 Peak Village voucher. The competition will be running until the grand measuring takes place on Saturday 3 March, so there is plenty of time to drop in and drop a stitch or two for charity at Peak Village.

“The cold weather makes it a perfect time to knit a scarf and we hope adults and children alike will come and have a go for a good cause,” said Terrence Morgan of Peak Village. “There are some great prizes on offer too and all the money raised will be going directly to Crohn’s and Colitis UK.”

Talk of knitting could lead to some serious ‘ribbing’ in the past but thanks to celebrity scarf wearers like Johnny Depp, David Beckham, Jennifer Aniston and Cheryl Cole, knitt wear is back in a big way, so the Peak Village Knitathon is the perfect opportunity to get involved and join in the fun.

Crohn’s disease and Colitis affect about 250,000 people in the UK and all the money raised in the Peak Village Knitathon will enable the charity to offer help and support to those suffering from these crippling conditions.
