Friends in heroic 100-mile trek
Eric Beer has organised a 100 mile walk for Help For Heroes.

AN intrepid group of friends from Pontefract will walk 100 miles to boost the coffers of Help For Heroes.
The team – including an ex-military
man, two policewomen, a bingo worker and a barmaid – will trek across
the Peak District over five days and hope to raise £5,000 for the
charity. Eric Beer, 42, who used to serve in the armed forces,
said: “We wanted to do something to support the men and women who fight
for their Queen and country. “It’s our way of recognising these heroes and the good work Help for Heroes does for soldiers wounded in action.” The group – who will be assisted by a support team – will begin their challenge on Monday April 16. Eric
said: “There’s not a lot we can do to train as such, except keep fit,
because we won’t know what conditions we’ll be facing until we begin. “It
will be a challenge because there will be big climbs and descents and
we won’t know what the weather will be like – but we’re looking forward
to it. “We’ve set a £5,000 target and we don’t know if we’ll reach
it, but we want to raise as much money as possible for this good cause. “We’d
like to thank The Barracks Wakefield and District Housing independent
living scheme for giving us a venue for our meetings as well as The
Barracks Community Association, West Yorkshire Police and Edale Mountain
